One of the surprises when I moved to Norfolk was seeing, for several months, poppies growing on roadside verges and in fields. They would spring up in different places, and on familiar journeys I would see poppies in different places from one week to the next. A couple of months ago a little group sprang up in a small country lane that I use regularly. I kept meaning to photograph them, but the chance and the right light didn't arrive until 6 August. I went out at dawn and made some images. Later that day I drove past again, and they'd gone - the farmer had trimmed all the verges. You can see a couple of the images in the Norfolk gallery here. That was summer (sort of), but it seems like yesterday; it's strange to think that we are already seeing the autumn leaves starting to fall.
